Hat Works - The Museum of Hatting
Hat Works - The Museum of Hatting is the UK´s only museum dedicated to the hatting industry and headwear. Guides reveal the art of hat making with working machinery. You can learn about Stockport´s historic links with hatting and how the industry flourished employing over 4,500 people by the end of the 19th century. Take the opportunity to watch the hatting demonstrations as they reveal the art and mystery of hat making, see the planking kettle where mercury was once used in the felting process and discover the origins of the term ´mad as a hatter´. The gallery houses a fantastic collection of hats, which date back to the 18th century. An excellent all weather attraction for all the family.
