Holburne Museum of Art

Holburne Museum is a beautiful building in its own grounds at the top of the most impressive street in Georgian England. It houses Bath´s most exciting display of fine and decorative art assembled around the collection of Bath resident Sir William Holburne (1793-1874). Sir William created a representative collection of what his age admired as the finest examples of the art of western Europe since the Renaissance; he acquired Italian Maiolica and Renaissance bronzes, 17th century Dutch paintings, European porcelain, English silver, Wedgwood and portrait miniatures. The collection has over the years and continues today to welcome superb new treasures which add to the richness of the Museum´s wonderful displays. The Holburne has a busy exhibition, education and events calender; please see our website or contact us for further details. ´A triumph of connosseurial taste: porcelain, silver, bronzes and paintings by Ramsay, Gainsborough and Stubbs.´ - Mark Fisher, Britain´s Best Museums and Galleries.
