The People´s Story

The People´s Story Museum is situated in the 16th century Canongate Tolbooth, in the Royal Mile. The Museum uses oral history, reminiscence, written sources and reconstructed sets to tell the story of the lives, work and leisure of the ordinary people of Edinburgh from the late 18th century to the present day. It is filled with the sights, sounds and smells of the past from a prison cell, cooper´s workshop, wash house, pub and tea room. Also on display are photographs, everyday objects, rare artefacts and an outstanding collection of trade union and friendly society banners.
