National Coal Mining Museum For England

The National Coal Mining Museum For England is a 17 acre site with a unique collection of buildings, displays and galleries that reveal the hidden world of mining through the centuries; learn about mining methods and machinery, the miners and their families. Wearing a hard hat and battery lamp, descend 140m underground to learn how coal was mined and moved to the surface. New galleries show how miners lived, worked and relaxed. Take a ride on the `locomotive´, explore the Nature Trail and meet the retired pit ponies. Refuel in the Café, drop into the Under 5´s play area and pick up souvenirs in the Gift Shop.
