Museum of Hartlepool

The Museum of Hartlepool tells the story of Hartlepool from prehistoric times to the present day using many original artefacts, photographs and models. Fascinating archaeological finds from the stone age and the time of the Saxons give way to the engineering and shipbuilding achievements of the Victorians. The constant presence of the sea has influenced the development of the town and this is reflected in many of the objects on display. The largest exhibit is the fully restored paddle steamer `Wingfield Castle´, which is moored alongside the museum quay. The museum is part of the award winning `Hartlepool´s Maritime Experience´.
