Lindisfarne Priory

Lindisfarne Priory is one of the holiest sites of Anglo-Saxon England and renowned as the original burial place of St Cuthbert. Founded in 635 by St Aidan who came from Iona, it was the centre of Christianity in Scotland. Lindisfarne was a treasure house of jewels and manuscripts, including incomparable illuminated Gospels (now in the British Library), and is still a holy site and has been a place of pilgrimage for 1300 years. In this award winning museum, one of the most important collections of Anglo-Saxon stonework is on display.
