Castle Museum
Colchester Castle Museum was once the capital of Roman Britain and a visit to the Museum takes you through 2000 years of some of the most important events in British history. The Museum is housed in the Norman keep of the Castle and the collections contain flint tools from the Palaeolithic to Neolithic ages and a mysterious wooden idol found at Dagenham dating fron the Bronze Age. Also on display are bronze weapons, axes and palstaves along with a hoard of late Bronze Age jewellery. The Museum is particularly concerned with the Roman occupation of Colchester and the Boudiccan revolt that burnt the town.
