The Dock Museum


The Dock Museum is built over an original Victorian dry dock, this modern Museum tells the history of Barrow-in-Furness. Discover how it grew from a 19th century hamlet to the biggest iron and steel centre in the world and a major force in shipbuilding. Exhibits include spectacular ship models, computer interactives, virtual tours, film shows and a `Shipbuilders to the World´ exhibition. Also on display are collections of decorative art, natural history and geology. There are regular special exhibition and event programmes.

Opening Times: 18 Mar to 26 Oct, Tue to fri 10:00-17:00, Sat & Sun 11:00-17:00. 29 Oct to 28 Mar 09, Wed to Fri 10:30-16:00, Sat & Sun 11:00-16:30. Last admission 45 minutes befire closing. Guided tours must be booked in advance.
