British Museum


The British Museums initial collection was bequeathed by Sir Hans Sloane in 1753 and is now one of the world´s finest museums. With a permanent display and special exhibitions of the works of humankind from prehistory to the present day, displays of antiquities from Egypt, the ancient Near East, Greece and Rome as well as Prehistory, Roman Britain, Medieval, Renaissance, Modern Art, African and Oriental collections. Key exhibits include the Lindesfarne Gospels, the Tomb of Payava and the Elgin Marbles. Also the national collection of prints and drawings, coins and banknotes. The Great Court houses the Clore Education Centre.
