by Jessica Baldwin (April 2012)
The candlelit bath is running, the bed’s covered in rose petals and the champagne is on ice... oh and the little one is screaming her heart out in the corner. A romantic break with the kids in tow? Impossible. Not any more, here I reveal the best UK breaks to entertain your children, leaving you free to indulge in sensual massages, delicious dining and... I will leave the rest to you!
Showing below are all 7 records in "Ten Great Places for a Romantic break with the Kids in Tow"
1. The Grove
London's Country Estate, Chandler's Cross
Hmmm, the kids have spent all day at Anouska’s kids’ club and yet they are still running riot, no problem, the hotel babysitter will take care of bedtime at stylish celebrity haunt The Grove so you can enjoy a romantic evening meal in Colette's followed by a nightcap drink in the Mansion lounges. Oh and fear not, on your return the little ones will be sound asleep – in the interconnecting room that is!
What could be more romantic than sailing along the rugged Scottish coastline as the sun sets in to the horizon? Oooh you could go back to a boutique hotel with a roaring log fire too! Oh what the hell, why not chuck in a private outdoor hot tub. Surprisingly all this and more awaits on the private Isle of Erskia, just off the west coast of Scotland and fear not, they have babysitters ready to go.
3. South Sands
Bolt Head, Salcombe
This charming New England style coastal retreat has five beach suites boasting fantastic dining and entertaining areas, panoramic views of the sandy bay and those all important spare rooms. Whilst the kids debate between horse riding, sailing and canoeing head out for a romantic ramble and pre-arrange the hotel to meet you with their champagne and oyster picnic before retreating to the roaring log fire for a cheeky nightcap.
Helford Passage, Mawnan Smith, Falmouth
These luxury self-catering cottages have babysitters ready to entertain the children whilst you enjoy the indoor pool complete with a roaring log fire or work up a lather in the outdoor hot tub. Once that’s out of your system nearby Falmouth Port is stuffed to the rafters with cafes, galleries, boutiques and boat trips; perfect for a family day out. Or, for fun closer to home explore the hotel’s 65 acres of subtropical gardens filled with exotic flowers and abundant wildlife.
Brackenhill, Longtown, Carlisle
Romantic log cabin, check. Zero phone reception, check. Private hot tub, check. Chilled champagne on arrive, Check. Oh yes and a spare room for the kids. During the day try salmon fishing in the river, or to really tire them out swing through the treetops at nearby forest adventure centre, Go Ape. With them suitably shattered you have the magical forest and steaming hot tub all to yourselves...
6. Bovey Castle
North Bovey, Dartmoor
Turn up with cardigan clinging cherubs and leave with independent progenies. Bovey Rangers teaches children essential survival skills from building shelters to creating toasty camp fires and all whilst you’re relaxing in the spa with your other half, enjoying fine wine in the bar or cruising over Dartmoor in a hot air balloon. Alternatively make sporting history on their ‘crolf’ course. What do you mean what is it? The love child of golf and croquet, of course!
53 Park Lane, London
Occupying the most prestigious plot of real estate in the world The Dorchester is one of London’s most iconic hotels. Their ’Family Time’ package includes two interconnecting rooms for the price of one and a free bottle of champagne on arrival.
