Not everyone wants to escape to the country for their nuptials. Holding your wedding breakfast or civil ceremony in the heart of a town or city can be both romantic and exciting. Every city centre hotel has a “best kept secret”. They range from grand gilt staircases, marble halls, walled or secret gardens to terraces and balconies overlooking stunning vistas by both day and night that create a unique backdrop for drinks receptions and photographs. So I picked out a selection of some of the most stylish venues that lie in the centres of our towns and cities.

Sydney Road, Bath
In the centre of the historic city of Bath, this Georgian hotel provides a fairytale setting for weddings.
