Southernhay House in the historic centre of Exeter is a boutique hotel of utter gorgeousness, inhabited by the spirit of the gregarious Georgians. In restoring the 1805 building reference has been always to the history of the last two centuries and the atmosphere is of “old fashioned modernity”.
Southernhay Bar and its Restaurant are a social focal point for the City, with a large and highly seasonal menu, cocktails, a feature-length whisky list and over 100 bins of fine wines, including a large selection by the glass. Head Chef Christopher Archambault is a well-known chef and a prolific gastronomic writer. Upstairs, the 10 bedrooms are chic, comfortable and individual, with marble bathrooms and crisp white linen bringing the old-fashioned elements together while 3D TVs and wifi throughout is the modern complement. Southernhay House is the newly opened sister hotel to the iconic Burgh Island, and has the same emphasis on quality, friendliness and high standards of service and structure.
