Balbirnie House in Fife, one of Scotland’s smartest privately-owned hotels, is a gorgeous Georgian confection that sits grandly amongst the greenery and splendour of a 400 acre park. An 18-hole golf course surrounds the building in which are 31 totally individual bedrooms (think primrose yellow and sky blue colour schemes and pretty florals), all luxuriously furnished, some with separate sitting rooms. The hotel also has a triplex apartment which has three self-contained bedrooms and a sitting room to relax in, all decorated in Scottish theme. The hotel is home to The Orangery, a destination restaurant in itself, which has won a clutch of awards for its interesting and innovative menus. Oh, and don’t forget to take a nip in the Library Bar beforehand. For a more informal bite, try the Balbirnie Bistro. The hotel was awarded the 2013 Gold Laurel Trophy for overall Business Passion and Performance Par Excellence /Scottish Hotel Awards (and runner up overall Scottish Hotel of The Year).

The Top Ten Resplendent Wedding Venues by Liz Coggins

"Balbirnie House Hotel is a historic Georgian mansion that has old world elegance and charm. An award winning wedding venue, the Gallery dates back to 1777 and its arched ceiling and windows give it an authentic Georgian atmosphere whilst The Orangery, with its tinted glass ceiling, has wonderful views of the 400 acres of parkland from its floor to ceiling windows."
