"Glenkinchie – The Scotsman: The Rate brothers built their first distillery on the Glenkinchie site in 1825 but they called their whisky “Milton”. The current name of this Lowland single malt derives from the family whose land the Rates were farming. Hundreds of years early the de Quincey (or Kinchie) family were the landowners in this part of East Lothian. Glenkinchie is one of only three Lowland distilleries still in operation. Its single malt has a clean, fresh flavour with some ginger notes in the finish. It’s a good accompaniment to sardines and parmesan cheese and often refered to locally as ‘The Edinburgh Malt’ – a pale, dry aperitif of choice for many in the nearby capital. The Scotsman is a fine Edinburgh hotel 15 miles west of Glenkinchie. It occupies the former NeoGothic offices of the Scotsman Newspaper. Much of the wooden panelling of the offfices are now to be found in the hotel’s bar & superbNorth Bridge Brasserie. Make sure your order the signature dish of 'Haggis, Neeps and Tatties' with a Glenfiddich single malt whisky jelly."
"City break: The Scotsman, Edinburgh There’s something about the way that very, very fancy hotels deck their halls at Christmas and New Year that lifts the soul. Tasteful to the max and no corner untouched, they create a fabulous, fairytale atmosphere that’s straight out of a Richard Curtis movie. The Scotsman, the stately former newspaper building in the heart of Edinburgh, does this in spades of course. Sign up for their New Year residential package for three nights of festive bliss. The deal includes a three-course dinner on the first night in the North Bridge Brasserie, full Scottish brekkie each morning, a swanky New Year’s dinner on the 31st plus entertainment and a New Year’s Day bash as well. You’re in the heart of one of the best cities in the world for celebrating the turn of the year, you’ve wonderful history and shopping on your doorstep and fabulous service (and a super spa) as well."
"Holding your nuptials in a former newspaper office may not excite – unless it’s The Scotsman Hotel that dominates the city’s skyline, just off the Royal Mile. This majestic building houses a plethora of exquisitely designed reception rooms including one with its own private patio. And if you can’t wait to see your wedding pictures you can view them in the hotel’s own private cinema with your guests."
"Just off the Royal Mile this 5 star hotel will tailormake your hen night so it’s exactly as you want it. Private dining can include cocktail parties, whiskey tasting or even a casino or race night. You can add spa treatments or watch a film in the 46 seater private cinema, ice-cream and popcorn included."
