If I say this is the sort of place that popstars playing nearby stay at (it is), it might give you an idea of what Ettington Park near Stratford Upon Avon is like. A Neo-Gothic Mansion surrounded by 40 acres of parkland and with outside dining terraces that make you feel like an extra in Downton Abbey, the hotel is seriously luxurious. Its 37 rooms and 11 suites are all styled immaculately and the public areas coo elegant comfort. The architecture (vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows) alone is worth the visit. But there’s lots more to look forward to besides - afternoon tea is an event not to be missed (with divine finger sandwiches) and the dinners served in the Oak Room dining room are exquisite. This one’s great for kids too, with plenty of clipped maze-like hedges for them to tear around. A real treat.
