Langshott Manor hotel

Built in the late 1500s and with many original features still intact, Langshott Manor sits at the end of a country lane in Surrey and makes the perfect secret night away. It’s brimming with romantic extras, like a real log fire in your room with table and chairs in front to sit and chat awhile and huge beds draped with diaphanous fabrics. This writer stayed in the Anne Boleyn room, so awoke the next morning to a chorus of quacking from the ducks on the ancient moat below and beyond that the clip clopping of horses on the nearby bridle path. You’d never guess you were five minutes from Gatwick airport. As my room was across the front garden from the main building, I had a pleasant little walk through the arch in the hedge to get to dinner and breakfast, giving me a chance to admire some of the three acres of private gardens. Dinner and breakfast in the Mulberrys Restaurant both felt like a five-star affair – at night it had a cosy, warm feel and in the morning the view through mullioned windows across the lawns as the December sun melted the frost was gorgeous.
