Plumber Manor is a very fine Jacobean manor house, built in the 1600s and still owned by the family who built it. It has to be one of the finest country house hotels in Dorset and is idyllically located in the heart of Thomas Hardy´s ´vale of little diaries´. This is the archetypal English country house, with an emphasis on 'country'. You´re guests of the Prideaux-Brunes, who have been entertaining here for 400 years; they´ll really look after you. The food is excellent. Chef, Brian Prideaux-Brune, says, 'Our guests are our friends and I cook for my friends'. Actually, Brian's a bit of a celebrity chef hereabouts. To stay at Plumber Manor is like staying with members of the family who have a superb house in the country. The bedrooms are so comfortable and the beautiful gardens a constant pleasure; magnificent trees, herbaceous borders, topiary courtyard, a large, sloping lawn, croquet and tennis, a white bridge over Divelish Stream (good for Pooh Sticks), pig sculptures and lots of lovely chairs and benches tucked away to relax on. The hotel is also well located for visiting Sherbourne, Shaftesbury, Blandford Forum, Dorchester, beaminster, Cerne Abbas and its Giant, Lulworth, Studland and the Jurassic Coast.
