The Arundell Arms hotel

The Arundell Arms exudes warmth and comfort and in small thoughtful things such as the home-made chocolates placed in the sitting room for the guests after dinner and the vases of fresh flowers. In the restaurant, guests are treated to a dining experience which we believe is among the best in England. Created by our Head Chef, Steven Pidgeon who has the rare honour of being elected one of only 80 Master Chefs of Great Britain, food is always meticulously prepared and beautifully presented. Using only the finest quality produce which is sourced from local suppliers Steven has gained an excellent reputation both locally and nationally for creating outstanding modern British cuisine. Our AA 2 Rosette restaurant attracts many non-residents who not only come to enjoy the quality of the food but also the elegant surroundings. Complemented by fine wines and attentive, friendly service The Arundell Arms restaurant is the perfect dining venue for any occasion. The Arundell Arms Hotel has been one of England’s premier fishing hotels for more than half a century and has 20 miles of its own water on the Tamar and six of its tributaries. These are spate rivers that rise on the moors and come down to our valleys through woods and farmland, becoming larger, deepening, providing an infinite variety of water, long slow pools, gravelly runs and stickles, fast shallows and open glides. When autumn comes the character of the hotel and the country changes. The fisherman go, the shooting parties arrive with the spaniels and labradors and the talk now by the fire in the bar is of high birds and driven snipe. There is nothing new about coming to Devon for the shooting - Negley Farson was doing just that in the 1920's, for woodcock, pheasant and black grouse. Were he to return today, he would not find a blackcock, but would be astounded by the quality of the pheasant shooting, for which the country is now famous.
