Lovelady Shield Country House Hotel is an elegant Georgian Country House standing on the former site of a 13th century convent on the banks of the River Nent, which nestles in the foothills of Alston Moor. There are 3 acres of secluded gardens in which to sit and relax whilst enjoying the unspoilt views of the surrounding countryside. The highlight for many is dinner, which is served in the elegant dining room. The menu varies daily and is imaginatively prepared by their Master Chef, Mr. Barrie Garton. They have consistently received Rosette awards from the AA for the high standard of their food.

Lovelady Shield Country House Hotel is part of the following Editors' Picks:

The Top Ten Historic Hotels on the Scottish Border by Adrian Mourby

"In medieval times the town of Alston was the property of the Scottish kings, even though it was technically in England. This led to many conflicts. Just outside Alston in a secluded spot on the banks of the River Nent a convent was built in the thirteenth century. This site was later cleared for the construction of an eighteenth-century villa that is now Lovelady Shield Country House Hotel. Farlam Hall Country House Hotel."
