Trip Advisor - 5 Stars - “Almost Perfection at this English Gem!”

I've been staying in hotels for both work and pleasure for over 30 years and many have claimed to be luxury, but have fallen short. This 4* traditional hotel surpasses many 5* that I've encountered along the way and it's for the following reason - the staff GIVE it the fifth star!

From when we arrived and was greeted by James, who was helped us with our cases and golf clubs after a particularly long, 10hr journey down, to the reception staff Jodie, Claire and Steven, through to bar staff Will, Sam and Michael and restaurant staff Moreen, Andrea, Gabriella, Sarka and Cheryl and Tony who heads up the golf shop - I can't fault them. Each member of staff had the ability to make you feel like a friend - something that I can't say I've experienced to this degree before and the owners should be extremely proud of them.

The hotel itself is an oasis of fabulousness in an area of natural beauty. It reminded me of a vineyard building (not sure why!) when we pulled up and the public areas have recently gone through a period of refurbishment which is in relaxing muted tones of blue, white and grey. There are more than enough areas to sit and enjoy a drink, or perhaps play one of the board games available - the terrace overlooking the garden is a particular favourite for the amazing view, down towards the foreshore.

The restaurant could still be classed 'traditional' in its decor, but we all liked that. I loved the fact that our 10year old daughter was able to eat in the restaurant and choose from either the children's high tea menu or the daily a la carte and was treated the same whichever she chose from! I will review the restaurant separately as it deserves it's own tome, but needless to say, the food was sublime! Regards jackets which has been questioned in reviews before, it's nice, but not totally necessary. I personally loved dressing up for dinner - it made every night we were there special.

Our room was one of the newly decorated Signature rooms overlooking the golf course. The room was big, with a separate WC to the bathroom in the corridor upon entering and the kingsize bed was even more comfortable than mine at home (note to self - I must find out what make it was!) Again the decor matched the muted tones of blue, grey and white and the soft furnishings were beautiful. Our daughter slept on a bed at the bottom of ours and there was still plenty of space for us all to walk around.

Toiletries both in the bathroom and in the restrooms around the hotel were all high quality Elemis, which was lovely. The leisure facilities were superb for a 'small' hotel...a wonderful little spa where both myself and my husband had treatments, the swimming pool was really big and also had a large side area where there was a sauna, a table tennis table and plenty of sun loungers. The outdoor hot tub was extremely special - the view across the gardens was stunning.

There were tennis courts and a snooker room we used (free of charge) and the golf course was magnificent. My daughter and I went round a few times with Tony from the golf shop. As a point to note - the WIFI is super fast! We had such a great time, we extended our stay by one night and if they had had the same room available for another night, we would've done the same again!

If I was being really picky (and I will be honest for the sake of this review), I really think they need to invest in air conditioning. It was warm whilst we were there and even with the window open and a borrowed fan, it was a tad too warm at night. It would also be nice to have an inroom safe. But these two things are honestly the only things I could think would have improved our stay, We were most sad to leave.

We met some lovely people there, many who have been going for 10, 20, 30 years plus! And we will be booking again for next year soon - I can't imagine anywhere in Cornwall being this tranquil, with all of the same leisure facilities or with such amazing food. Martin - you have an amazing hotel, thank you!!

Trip Advisor - 5 Stars - “Simply lovely”

Last minute, I needed to find somewhere to stay after delivering my son to his new uni. Budock Vean managed to squeeze me in when nowhere else could - seems everyone else was doing the same thing! What a delightful place. So many personal touches, a very warm welcome, lovely room and in such a glorious setting, 6 miles outside Falmouth and hidden away. Will definitely return. Highly recommend.

Trip Advisor - 5 Star - "Wedding Anniversary"

My Dad and his fiancé paid for me and my husband to stay overnight in this hotel for our first wedding anniversary. The hotel isn't very modern but then I like that it was old fashioned, the rooms would benefit from air conditioning (we were very fortunate with the weather as it was lovely and hot).

We had dinner in the restaurant and the main course roast beef was amazing.
And it was a nice touch with having a pianist play music.

What made this the best hotel I've ever stayed in (even better than my wedding hotel) was the grounds. The gardens were picturesque and down by the sea is my favourite place in Cornwall. The view is stunning and it is so peaceful.

We will definitely be going back and next time we will take the children as they will love the gardens and sea too.

Trip Advisor - 5 Stars - “Budock Vean, thanks for your support”

This summer I walked the entire South West Coast Path to raise money for FORCE and Over and Above, two South West charities that support cancer patients and their families.

Budock Vean very kindly agreed to be my Accommodation Partner and Gold Sponsor in Helford Passage. Budock Vean was the best large hotel I stayed at throughout the whole 56-day trip.

It is a traditional, classy hotel in a quiet location above the picturesque Helford estuary. The double room I stayed in was the largest I saw during the trip, featuring a big, comfortable bed, a sizeable en-suite bathroom and nice views over the golf course.

The bar, lounge and conservatory areas are impressive and there’s a nice indoor swimming pool, where it was refreshing to unwind after a day’s walking. The reception staff were very friendly and approachable while a barman helped to solve an issue with my laptop.

The most memorable part of my stay was the excellent food and very professional service in the large restaurant. I had a terrific four-course evening meal, accompanied by music from a pianist, and a very good full English breakfast, which set me up nicely for the walk to Falmouth. The restaurant was well-staffed and everyone was keen to ensure you had a quality experience. I felt fortunate to stay at Budock Vean. Thanks once again to all the staff for your amazing support of my charity expedition.

If you search for Jim’s Journey on Facebook, you can see lots of photos of the views around Helford Passage and elsewhere along the South West Coast Path.

Trip Advisor - 4 Stars - "Enjoy what The Vean has to offer”

This is our second visit to Budock Vean hotel in Cornwall. We discovered this gem of a hotel for a break over the Easter weekend last year, when we made arrangements to return this year with our best friends from the US.

Budock Vean is a quintessential country house hotel, that caters in a modern way for a visitor that may have stepped from an Agatha Christie novel. While not necessarily croquet on the lawns, the 9-hole, 18-tee golf course is a joy to play, which as a guest, is all built into the price of your stay. Similarly the indoor pool and outdoor hot tub are provided, as well as having spa treatments available which do have an additional charge.

When booking you have opportunity to book evening dinner for each night of your stay too. If you don't have other arrangements, it is well worth taking this option to receive a hefty discount on the 'on the night' rates.

The beds and en-suites are very good too. Remember this is a country house hotel and not a big city faceless hotel chain, so expect the rooms to be clean, tidy and well supplied ensuite bathrooms. Each room includes tea/coffee/kettles/biscuits etc. hairdryers and televisions.

If golf, tennis, swimming, spa, afternoon tea, relaxing in the sun (weather permitting) are not your thing, the Vean has a very pretty walk down the valley to the riverside where you discover a summer house and boat landing (very Poirot) alongside a trickling stream with plenty of plants and trees, only interrupted by the occasional 'fore' from the adjacent golf course.

Alongside the Vean are a couple of visitor gardens that may be of interest too, not that we have visited them yet, and then Falmouth is about 20-minute drive away.
If staying for a few nights, some exploration of this area of Cornwall is very relaxing, finding occasional hostelry's in walking distance along the river side too.

If you should visit and find yourself disappointed, then its likely this wasn't for you and was not what you had expected in the first place.

Via Trip Advisor - 5 Stars - “Memorable”

We have stayed at Budock Vean every year for ten years as a special weekend with friends and the excellent standard never wavers. The staff, room and food are superb and the leisure facilities are great. The gardens going down to the cove are lovely - such a special place.

Budock vean was absolutely lovely, spacious room overlooking golf course, excellent facilities including swimming pool and jacuzzi. The grounds and gardens are stunning with a beautiful walk right down to the river. We ate dinner in the restaurant 3 nights and each meal was superb. Only 1 fault I can think of and that was no air conditioning in the room, but it was particularly hot weather! When this was mentioned to staff a fan was immediately put into the room. Would certainly visit again. Reviewed by suffolkswimming on Trip Advisor.

A beautiful hotel offering outstanding customer service. We booked a last minute break direct with the Budock Vean reception team via email and phone. The booking process was handled in a very courteous and efficient manner by friendly, helpful staff. On arrival we were promptly checked into our upgraded room and James the porter not only handled our bags but showed us around the facilities which were fabulous. We had diner in the lovely dining room where the appetising and delicious food was served by well trained and attentive staff. Overall our stay was a tremendous success, made special by the luxurious surroundings and fantastic staff who are trained and motivated in providing excellent customer hospitality. I highly recommend this hotel.
