Overview

There's nothing quite like the serene feeling you get as you sit outside in the late afternoon sun in summer and watch as the rays reflect off soft yellow Cotswold stone. That said, the Cotswolds are just magical to visit any time of year and The Mill House Hotel in Kingham, one of the last family-owned hotels in the area, seems a perfect base. Its ten acres of lawn and trout stream set the bucolic scene as you roll up to this converted mill which dates back to the Domesday Book. Inside, bedrooms all have spectacular views, either across the Cotswold countryside or over the grounds and stream, and are individually furnished (with chef's homemade biscuits by the bed). There are three dining areas to choose from but whichever you go for, expect locally sourced produce and careful attention to detail.

Reviews

My wife and I have been visiting the hotel for 40 years. The new owners, a poplar local couple Paul and Maria Drinkwater, have already made their mark by implementing new standards of decoration, bed furnishings and cleanliness, whilst the same chef continues to build his fine reputation for dining room and bar menus to suit all tastes and all pockets.

A small country hotel in the beautiful Cotswold country with extensive grounds. Privately owned, recently renovated while retaining the atmosphere of what was originally a flour mill. The excellent food is what makes it special, strawberries and Pimms on arrival in the summer, a la Carte meals. Friendly owners and staff, dogs welcome.

1) The hotel was homely, comfortable and personal. 2) The food was exceptionally good, imaginative and beautifully presented. 3) There was a wide and well chosen menu. 4) The breakfasts were superb. 5) The service was faultless and exceptional even when there was heavy demand. 6) The public rooms were comfortable and well presented.

I spent a night here before I went back to work. Beautiful room, vintage style, comfie bed, modern bathroom, crispy white bed linen. Nice and helpful staff! Breakfast: from a menu card and selection of fruits, croissants, cereals on the side board, homemade yoghurts (yummuy!) and marmalade jam. Your tummy must be empty!

Excellent hotel. Food was very high standard. We went with 2 other couples. One of which broke down and didn't get back to hotel till 10 pm, Maria sorted out a cold buffet for them which was excellent. Very friendly staff, would go again definitely.

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with 30 guests and had a fantastic time. Everyone was so complimentary saying lovely food, great setting, friendly welcome. Thanks to Maria and her staff. No better place for celebration or a quiet visit.

Atmospheric building. Warm welcome at reception. Excellent cuisine, both dinner and breakfast (vast range of food). Afternoon tea, home cooking.
