Castle Coole

Castle Coole is a majestic 18th century house, built by James Wyatt for the 1st Earl of Belmore, its one of the finest in Ireland. It is built from white Portland stone which was shipped from Dorset at great expense. The great halls are filled with ornate plasterwork and marble chimneypieces. The opulent Regency interior, with rich decoration and furnishings, includes the ornate state bedroom prepared for George IV in 1821. Close by are the servants´ quarters with tunnel, stable yard and ice house. The wooded landscaped park slopes down to Lough Coole.
