Picton Castle
Picton Castle, built in the 13th century by Sir John Wogan, is still the family home of his direct descendants, under the name of Philipps. The medieval castle was remodelled above the undercroft, in the 1750s by Sir John Philipps, with plastered rooms and fireplaces by Sir Henry Cheere. In 1790 a new wing was added that included a dining room and drawing room. The 40 acres of gardens include a unique collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, mature trees and unusual shrubs. Picton art gallery is in the grounds.
