Crathes Castle

Crathes Castle, built in the 16th century, is an excellent example of an L-tower house of the period with four stories and an attic. King Robert the Bruce granted the lands of Leys to the Burnett family in 1323. The ancient Horn of Leys was presented by Bruce to the family as a symbol of his gift. Some of the castle rooms retain original painted ceilings and collections of family portraits and furniture. The walled garden was created more than 300 years after completion of the castle.
