Traquair House

Traquair House, originally a castle owned by the Kings of Scotland, later became the home of the Earls of Traquair whose descendants still live there. It is where Alexander I signed a charter over 800 years ago, and the `modern wings´ were completed in 1680. The state bed is a memorial to the time Mary Queen of Scots and her husband Lord Darnley stayed here in 1566 along with their son, the future King James of Scotland and England. At the top of the old tower is a museum displaying family memoriabilia. Also an 18th century working brewery.
