Drumlanrig Castle, the Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry KT, was built between 1679 and 1691 by William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry. Local pink sandstone was used in its construction and it is built around a courtyard with a tower in each corner. It houses a fine art collection, including works by Rembrandt and Holbein, cabinets made for Louis XIV´s Versailles and a 300 year old chandelier. The bedroom used by Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745 is on display. A wide variety of wildlife can be seen in the grounds.
