Culzean Castle & Country Park

Culzean Castle, converted by Robert Adam from a fortified tower house into an elegant residence for David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassillis, between 1777 and 1792. It is on a cliff overlooking the estuary of the river Clyde. An exhibition shows the connection of General Eisenhower with the castle, which boasts a fine collection of paintings and furniture, and a display of weapons in the Armoury. The Country Park contains a wealth of natural and historical interest with garden areas including a Walled Garden, Swan Pond, terraced Fountain Court and deer park.
