Ripley Castle
Ripley Castle was the dowry received by Sir Thomas Ingilby when he married Edeline Thweng in the early 1300s, and the Ingilby family still live there. The 16th century Old Tower was specially decorated for a visit from James I on his way from Scotland. A priest hole was discovered behind the Tudor panelling in the Knight´s Chamber, which houses a collection of armour and weapons. Fine collections of china, furnishings, paintings and chandeliers collected by the family over the centuries are on display. An extensive walled garden features the National Hyacinth Collection and massive herbaceous borders.
