Newby Hall
Newby Hall was built in the 1690s, in the style of Sir Christopher Wren, by John Etty, it is now the home of Richard and Lucinda Compton. Their ancestor, William Weddell, asked Robert Adam to transform the interior to house his collection of ancient Roman sculptures and set of Gobelins tapestries, which can now be seen in the domed Sculpture Gallery and Tapestry Room. Thomas Chippendale was commissioned to make the furniture. Within the 25 acres of gardens is the National Collection of Genus Cornus, formal gardens, double herbaceous borders and a comprehensive children´s adventure garden with inter play and a miniature railway.
