St Mary´s House is a magnificent medieval house with fine panelled interiors, including the unique Elizabethan ´Painted Room´ with its trompe l´oeil murals, giving an air of tranquillity and timelessness. The Drawing Room has a marquetry overmantle depicting guns and military musical instruments in oak, box and burr walnut. In the 16th century South Hall is an exquisite gilded wall-leather, decorated with flowers, fruit and birds. The formal gardens have amusing animal topiary, and in the Victorian ´Secret´ Garden can be seen the Victorian fruit-wall, former potting shed (now housing a Rural Museum), Jubilee Rose Garden, Terracotta Garden and woodland walk.
