Arundel Castle

Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 9AB

You can see the mighty medieval Arundel Castle from miles away and as you approach it, its grandeur only seems to increase. Dating back to the Norman Conquest, the castle is groaning with terrific historical artefacts and you can’t swing a cat without spotting a Van Dyck, a Reynolds or a Gainsborough. A major attraction is the rosary worn by Mary Queen of Scots just before she was executed which was bequeathed to the owner of Arundel Castle, the Duke of Norfolk and Earl of Arundel (whose descendants still live in the castle). The truly lovely grounds which overlook the River Arun have wonderful restored Victorian gardens within. Look out for the oldest feature at the castle, the motte which is over 100 feet above the dry moat and was built in 1068. There's a full programme of historic events throughout the season - please refer to website for full details.

Arundel Castle also has a Attraction / Activity:
