Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle is one of Europe´s finest. It is the second largest inhabited Castle in England and has been the home of the Percys, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309. Dating from the 11th century this magnificent Castle was built as a stronghold during the bloody Border wars. Restorations by the First and Fourth Dukes transformed the mighty fortress into a beautiful family home. The Italian Renaissance style State Rooms house fine furniture, porcelain and paintings by Canaletto, Van Dyck and Titian. Alnwick Castle´s unique combination of history, art, landscape, childrens activities, special events, dining, shopping and exploring ensure that as a day out it really offers something that can only be described as very special.
