Tissington Hall

Tissington Hall was built in the 17th century and lived in by the FitzHerbert family for 500 years, Tissington Hall is a fine specimen of its period with gates wrought by the celebrated Robert Bakewell. The hall still has Jacobean panelling with 18th century Gothic decoration and houses a wonderful collection of family portraits by Angelica Kauffmann. The furniture is of many eras and family artefacts are on display. At the rear of the house is the library, designed by Arnold Mitchell, and this is cluttered with old maps and books. The 10 acres of gardens include an arboretum.
