Plas Newydd


Plas Newydd is an impressive 18th century house by James Wyatt which is famous for housing Rex Whistler´s largest painting and an exhibition about his work. The interior is a mix of classical and Gothic and was restyled in the 1930s. There is also a military museum containing, uniforms and campaign relics of the 1st Marquess of Anglesey, who commanded the cavalry at the Battle of Waterloo. Set on the banks of the Menai Strait, with a fine spring garden, summer terrace, woodland walks and Australasian arboretum.

Opening Times: House: 1-12 Mar, Sat to Wed 12:00-16:00, 15 Mar to 29 Oct, Sat to Wed 11:00-17:00. Open Good Friday.

Location: Two miles south west of Llanfairpwll and A5 on A4080 to Brynsiencyn; turn off A5 at west end of Britannia Bridge.
