Picton Castle

A beautiful hybrid, Picton Castle consists of a 13th century castle with splendid Georgian wing added in 1790s. Guided tours span nearly 800 years, starting in the medieval castle, elegantly remodelled with plaster and fireplaces by Sir Henry Cheere, through the Georgian drawing room, down to a fully equipped Victorian kitchen and finishing in the vaulted undercroft. Outside, there'e 40 acres of woodland and walled garden, with unique collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, mature trees and unusual shrubs. Centred on the Victorian courtyard are the Picton Art Gallery, with frequently changing art exhibitions, and popular Mediterranean Restaurant.
