The Hill House

The Hill House is one of the finest of Charles Rennie Mackintosh´s domestic creations, sitting high above the Clyde commanding fine views of the river estuary. It was commissioned in 1902 by Walter Blackie, who wanted an individual house and garden. Most of the furniture and all the interior fittings and decorative schemes are also by Mackintosh. Displays include work of new designers, demonstration of the effects of the wonderful stained glass, and a selection of original fabrics. The gardens have been restored to their former glory, with a sculpture by George Rickey.
