Paxton House, Gallery and Country Park

Paxton House is one of the finest 18th century Palladian country houses in Britain, built to the design of John Adam with a Regency extension by Robert Reid. The twelve period rooms feature Adam interiors, a fine collection of Chippendale and Trotter furniture. The Georgian kitchen has recently been restored to working order and the magnificent Picture Gallery, the largest in a Scottish country house, contains over 70 paintings from the National Galleries of Scotland. There are two exciting new additions, the Ellem Fishing Club, the oldest rod fishing club in the world has a permanent exhibition, and a new feature in the house is the nursery, a visual insight into a child´s bedroom of the early 19th century. The 80 acres of parkland, gardens, woodland and riverside walks with red squirrel and bird hides include a net fishing museum, adventure playground and picnic areas. With a gift shop, licensed tea-room, and many changing exhibitions Paxton House has much to offer everyone.
