Mellerstain House

Mellerstain House is a Georgian house which was begun in 1725 by William Adam and completed several years later by his son Robert, and it is the home of the Earl and Countess of Haddington. The interior has superb decoration and the ceilings have been preserved in their original Adam colours. The Library features some fine detailed plasterwork, and marble busts by Roubiliac. On display are original pieces of period furniture and an art collection that includes work by Van Dyke, Ramsey, Gainsborough, Maes and Van Der Heist. Set in beautiful parkland with an Italian style terraced garden laid out in 1909.
