Kelburn Castle

Kelburn Castle is the home of the Earls of Glasgow, probably the oldest castle in Scotland to have been continuously inhabited by the same family. The Boyle family, originally de Boyville, came from Normandy with William the Conqueror and settled at Kelburn in 1143. Part of a 13th century Norman Keep is incorporated into the 1580 Z-plan castle. In 1700, David Boyle, 1st Earl of Glasgow, completed his mansion house addition and in 1880 a Victorian wing was built on. The grounds include historic gardens, a famous glen with many waterfalls and gorges and two of Scotland´s 100 most important heritage trees.
