Belsay Hall

Belsay Hall is situated in the centre of an estate that belonged to the Middleton family from the 13th century. Belsay Hall was designed by Sir Charles Monck in Greek Revival style, inspired by the architecture he saw on his year-long honeymoon in Greece. The house is square and made entirely of stone and the pillars have Doric and Ionic capitals. None of the furniture has survived but the Library has its original marble fireplace and beautiful plasterwork.
