Tiverton Castle

Originally built by order of Henry I in 1106, Tiverton Castle was then rebuilt in the 13th/14th centuries and altered down the ages. It is part Grade I Listed and part Scheduled Ancient Monument. Fascinating history. Once home to the poweful medieval Earls of Devon and a Plantagenet princess, besieged by Fairfax during the Civil War, it is now a peaceful private house. Fine Civil War armoury - try some on - interesting furniture and pictures, friendly ghosts, medieval garderobes, secret passages, comfortable holiday apartments.
