Rockingham Castle
Rockingham Castle was built by William the Conqueror and was regularly used by the early Kings of England until it was granted to Edward Watson in the 16th century, whose ancestors still live there. It is a Tudor building within Norman walls, but each century has left its mark by either its architecture, furniture or works of art. A fine collection of family portraits by Reynolds and Van Dyck is on display. In Victorian times Charles Dickens was a regular visitor. Twelve acres of formal and wild gardens surround the castle, along with the 400 year old `Elephant Hedge´.
