Basildon Park


Basildon Park, an 18th century Palladian mansion, set in 400 acres of parkland, was designed by Carr of York for Francis Sykes. The interior contains fine plasterwork, pictures and furniture and an unusual Octagon room and a decorative shell room. The house was saved from ruin by Lord and Lady Iliffe in 1952. A side room houses Graham Sutherland´s studies for the tapestry `Christ in Glory´. There is a small flower garden and woodland walks.
