Lyme Park
Lyme Park, originally a Tudor house, was transformed by the Venetian architect Leoni into an Italianate palace. Parts of the Elizabethan interior have survived and contrast dramatically with later additions in the 18th and 19th century. The state rooms are adorned with Mortlake tapestries with Grinling Gibbons wood-carvings in the dining room, and feature an important collection of unique English clocks. The 17 acre Victorian garden has impressive bedding schemes, a sunken parterre, an Edwardian rose garden, Jekyll-style herbaceous borders, reflection lake, a ravine garden and Wyatt conservatory. The garden is surrounded by a medieval deer park.
