Boughton House

Boughton House: The Northamptonshire home of The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, K T. The modest medieval buildings, originally purchased by the Montagu family in 1528, were transformed under their stewardship over 250 years into one of the great houses of Europe. The special attraction of Boughton lies in the harmonious blending of the superb collections of paintings, furniture, tapestries, needlework, carpets, porcelain, arms and silver in a setting of fine beauty with a magical atmosphere to match, just as the artists, craftsmen and discriminating collectors of the Montagu family intended. The Park which includes a great spread of lawns, lakes, waterways, woods and avenues of trees is currently being restored, inspired by the original plans of 1746; waterways are being cleared and realigned to the original scheme, whilst many features and avenues are being re-created.
