Waddesdon Manor - The Rothschild Collection
Waddesdon Manor was built between 1874 and 1889, in the style of a 16th century French cháteau, for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. There is a large display of French 18th century decorative arts. The outstanding portraits are by Gainsborough and Reynolds, with works by Dutch and Flemish Masters of the 17th century. Also fine furniture, Savonnerie carpets and Sèvres porcelain, and a spectacular silver dinner service made for George II. Waddesdon has one of the finest Victorian gardens with its seasonal displays, colourful shrubs, mature trees and parterre. Thousands of bottles of vintage Rothschild wines line the cellars.
