Manor House Golf Club

The Manor House hotel course in the 13th century Wiltshire village of Castle Combe, famed more for its motor racing circuit, was created Peter Alliss and Clive Clark in 1992 and has improved ever since. Stately oak and beech trees line the fairways on 350 acres. There are many feature holes – the par five third requires a perfect drive to the right of the sharply sloping fairway followed by a risky shot over a valley and stream towards the well-bunkered green on the hillside. The drop hole Burton Brook 130-yard 17th with its double green, and the driveable par-four eighth from another elevated green suggest the use of transport, but remember that buggy paths are mandatory. Otherwise the enjoyable experience can be exhausting.
