Wentworth Club (West)
Wentworth’s West course is probably the most famous in Britain as it hosts the televised PGA Championship and World Matchplay each year. Constructed by Harry Colt in 1926, local resident Ernie Els toughened it in 2006 by introducing new bunkers and lengthening holes and it now runs to 7,300 yards off the back markers. A parkland course with heather and ditches, an abundance of mature trees and 18 memorable holes, starts with a tough drive to the top of a valley and a second shot to an elevated sloping green. It closes with two par fives. The last, a dogleg right with bunkers to trap an over-hit drive and a ditch in the middle of the fairway, is now played to a smaller green with more bunkers.
