Royal West Norfolk or Brancaster as it's also known is, like nearby Hunstanton, a genuine links course. Brancaster has amazing dark-faced sleeper bunkers and salt marshes and is often cut off by tidal flooding. The third, at 407 yards, is a classic par four with the marshes on the right and a second shot across a massive bunker to a raised green. The fourth, sixth and 10th are demanding short holes while the eighth is an excellent short par five and along with 14, with its hidden green, is the pick of many fine holes. The homeward stretch is slightly shorter than the outward nine but is usually played into a strong westerly.
