Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club
Avoiding the 200 bunkers is the essential requirement to play well at Royal Lytham and St Annes, created by the club’s first professional George Lowe in 1886 and modified by Harry Colt. Surrounded by housing and flanked by a railway line, it is not situated in the most endearing setting, but the 6,334-yard, par71 links, a long way from the sea, is one of the one of the most prestigious and influential in English golf. The greens are fast and true. A tough back nine with one par five, one three and seven demanding par fours including the final six ends with the famous 18th in front of the clubhouse that has seen many dramas during ten Opens and two Ryder Cups.

Directions : By car from the Motorway system * Leave the M6 motorway at junction 32 and join the M55 which goes to Blackpool . At the next roundabout, take the third exit which is actually a continuation of the main route. * At the first set of traffic lights go straight through, again following the main route. At the next set of lights, continue on the main road, (ignore signs for Lytham St Annes) straight through the lights, and along Squires Gate Lane, passing Morrisons Supermarket, the Airport and The Air Balloon Hotel and rising over the railway bridge until you see the sea in front of you. Turn left at these lights and pass Pontins Holiday Camp. * You are now on Clifton Drive North. With the sand dunes on your right continue along Clifton Drive North until you reach the next set of traffic lights at the Highbury Road junction and carry straight on. As you enter the town of St Annes you will see the gates of Ashton Gardens on the left followed by Woolworth's at the next set of lights. * Continue through these until you reach the next set of lights at St Thomas Road (there is a pedestrian crossing between these two sets of lights) Turn left and rise over the railway bridge. There is a school on your right and when you reach the end of the school playground railings, turn right into St Patrick's Road South. The car park to the Golf Club is on your right. |
